Running Windows on an Expansion Drive

A few years back I made the jump to a Mac for my daily driver development machine for many reasons but there were a few times that I needed to fire up Visual Studio or Visio just for productivity or project specific reasons. Parallels has been my go to for hosting Windows VMs, but with the poor choice of the 256gb drive, cause everything was suppose to be offline, I tend to bump up against the limit more recently. Cleaning off temp files, recent Windows install files, old projects etc is tedious regardless of the utilities that are available. I have found a solution, Transcend makes JetDrive Lite that sits flush in SD slot on the MacBook Pro and has...

What's up Docs?

I put out a survey on twitter a few months ago on "What was challenging you most about ASP.NET Core" What is challenging you most about #aspnetcore— Shayne Boyer (@spboyer) April 26, 2016 ...ironically it was Documentation. Looking over the list of issues there is a range of topics to cover. Everything from simple variable renaming to full tutorials. Now I am asking you, the community, what do you want to have in the docs, what's most important to you? ASP.NET is open source, and the Docs are included in that umbrella. So create issues, +1 to get them prioritized, comment, and share. ASP.NET on Github - https://github.com/aspnet ASP.NET Docs on -...

Deploying an Angular 2 App to Azure with Github

Recently John and I took some time away to discuss how to get an Angular 2 application deployed to Azure. There were some challenges here and there with configuration, discussions about "just wanting to code" and more; it was a lot of fun. Here is the result of that conversation. Check out the Play by Play on Pluralsight, and the All code samples can be found at github. In this course, John Papa and Shayne Boyer walk through how to build and deploy an Angular 2 app to Azure. You'll learn valuable tips on how to think about cloud deployment, how to mirror production environments locally using Gulp and Express, and how to use tools like Gulp, Github, and npm...

Handing in my ears...

I'm going to work for Microsoft. What's My Job? I will be working on building out content for docs.microsoft.com, specifically ASP.NET Core and probably other things... Disney For the last 4 years I have had the opportunity to work with some very talented people building great products. Most notably I was a part of the Disney Cruise Line Navigator mobile project where I served as the lead architect and developed the mobile services to support the mobile applications (iOS, Android) and recently the complete revamp of DisneyCruiseLine.com bringing in new architecture, technology stacks and process change to teams. I will miss the people I worked with day to day and being able to be in the...
